2021 State Convention

Welcome to the 2021 FNRL State Convention

This years convention will be virtual. We have worked to make this a concise and effective convention. The events are helpful to students to prepare for future careers in any field. We will have a guest speaker TBA, along with the state officers. We will hopefully be electing our new group of state officers at that time.

Friday, April 30 @ 10 am.

There is no registration. Students will just enter and compete. They need to make sure during each event, they indicate somewhere which school they are from.

Any issues or questions should be directed to rlowther@oregonfnrl.org

The top 6 students will be recognized for each event.

Dates for each event will appear under the event information.

This event is an addition to our regular CDE's. The event is similar to what we did last year and in the fall. The questions are a bit different along with the data. All the information needed is provided on the test linked below.

NOT ALL STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE AN INTERVIEW. The top students will be picked for an interview and the top students will be picked from that group.

Resume's and Cover Letters will be required. Students can choose which job they are applying for. They need to be emailed or shared to jobinterview@oregonfnrl.org

Please include only authentic information in your resume'. Links to samples are on the rules page.

Examples include how to cable splice, tree climbing, arbor climbing, wildlife tracking and ID, etc. Students can use props during this speech. The speech is 3-7 minutes. Students will film their speech and submit it to jobskilldemo@oregonfnrl.org. The students' name and school should be clearly identified in the email or the file name for the speech.

Demonstration Speech Rules

Speech videos will be due by Friday, April 23.

Written Expression

Written expression is a persuasive essay in the form of a letter to the editor. Typically people write in about topics they are passionate about, either for or against. Most letters to the editor are limited to 500 words or less. The idea is to express an opinion on a topic. There are two articles linked below. They each present a different perspective on the fires that occurred this past fall. Read through the articles and write a letter to the editor. There are links to sample business letters on the rules page. Submit letters to writtenexpression@oregonfnrl.org by Friday, April 23.
